British Olympic & Single Arm Championships – 9th August 2025 – Derby University

The Lifters & Officials of the 2025 British Olympic and Single Arm Championships

Report by Promoter Steve Gardner:

It was a pretty amazing day at the Olympics and Single Arm Championships at Derby University today. I thank Josh Davidson for helping to make it possible to use this wonderful facility. We had a lot to do and had to be off the premises by 5 so the Centre could be secured, we walked out at 4.40pm so that was great!
I want to thank Sam for working with me at the score table, couldnt have done it without her, and a massive thanks to all those that took it in turns to load and keep the competition moving. It was a big job but we did it, and that’s all thanks to our amazing IAWA family, many hands make light work. A great job by the officials too keeping the refs chairs filled throughout.
The lifting was just amazing and there were so many successful record attempts it was truly wonderful (due to the time constraints we couldn’t have 4th attempts on the OH Snatch and OH C& Jerk) but as I said it all worked out just about right
Group one was the Juniors and Ladies, and so great to have six female lifters. They all performed so well, and it was great to meet Emily Watkinson, a real one to watch for the Future. Leo Moss was on fire in the junior Ranks along with Emily Haydock. Pandora Holladay lifted so well, as did Kayleigh Lamb who continues to improve. Chloe was just immense as Chloe is (93.5 Kilos Clean and Jerk) but an injury stopped her from performing the one hand deadlift. Amy Proferes..Well Amy was outstanding and put on a really polished performance
In the Second Group we had Thomas Meakin and Steve Andrews setting the pace. Jack Somerville was on point all day with great lifts, along with Paul Hallam who also continues to improve. Josh Davidson was exceptional and competed so well, as did Mark Haydock, just as we would expect! Rich Metcalf and Jamie Oates each performed some great lifts, and Matt Jones was also amazing, and only just off the 125k mark having lost the best part of 30 kilos this season
Anyone present knew the were witnessing a great great competition!
